The Buckingham Blog

We've been on our holidays and it was amazing.  It was only for a week, but it was hot, relaxing and we were totally pampered in the hotel.  The hotel we ended up in by accident after our flight was cancelled and we had to change airports and hotel.  But boy was it a good change! 

We went on the 6th and got home on 13th (after an 8 hour delay - which was awful!)  and we're only now getting back to reality.  There isn't really a whole lot to tell, we sat by the pool, we ate lots in the all inclusive restaurants, we drank.  The kids went to mini-club by day and mini-disco by night and thouroughly enjoyed it.  Kory got zig-zags cut into his hair and I had a manicure. Kory even cried when we left.

I started the blog 5 years ago today.  I didn't ever imagine I'd still be doing it now.  But I find the concept hard to stop.  It's Kory & Krystal's whole lives from before they were even born.

Well I'm not that's for sure!!

While surfing about yesterday lunchtime I decided to do the typical" type your name into Google and see what you get" search. In the top ten came this website www.jamesbuckingham.com - Yes it's a blog by a guy called James Buckingham in Wales.

So anyway while I was there I though I'd put a wee comment on one of the entries to say "Hello James, it's James Happy New Year" :-)

Now you might be thinking, yeah that's cool but so what? Well have a look at the design of the site as well?? It's the same as ours. How spooky is that??? It's not even that common.

Checking my emails tonight I got a message from James (that's the other one) who has put a comment on one of our entries here. He's also put an entry on his blog about all of this as well. How cool :-)

I now feel drawn to hitting the old search engines again to find more James Buckingham's around the world, as James says (not me the other one :-)) it feels very Dave Gorman. Maybe there are even more James Buckingham's reading this blog? Who knows!!!

Some of you might have noticed recently that the blog has been going online/offline like a yo-yo over the past few weeks. We've also been having problems in the admin area as well. Hence the lack of entry recently.

I've spent the past week bouncing emails back and forth to the new hosting company that we're using about the problems and without going into any great detail it looks like the server wasn't coping with the demand being put on it!

Anyway just last night we were moved to a new server so hopefully things should start settling down a bit now. Fingers crossed anyway but if anybody does happen to see problems with the site can you drop me an email and let me know? My address is Clakee21 <at> hotmail <dot> com.

Ok so I've been told by Julie that I don't do enough blogging and I should get my finger out and help her a bit more.

So I'm currently on my lunch at work thinking "What the hell can I blog about?" Julie, Kory and Krystal have always been better at telling you all about our day-to-day news and to be honest who wants to know what I get up to during the day? It's too geeky/boring (delete where appropriate) for this blog. 

So what I thought I'd try and do is give a bit more off-topic news and stuff. At least that way we give it a bit of variety.I don't know where this is going to lead but what the hell I'll give it a shot  

So where better to start than the new blog and some of the new features?!?!

You might, or might not, have noticed a few changes. I've got more in the pipeline but here's a quick rundown of some of the less obvious ones and what they're for:

Archive by Subject: You can now look up posts by category. So if you're looking for all the news from Julie it's in the "Julie" section, if you want to watch the videos we've posted in the past then they're in the "Video" section.

Subscribe: Some of you have spotted this already but for the lazy people out there you can now subscribe to our blog using the little "Subscribe" option at the side or by ticking the option when you add a comment. This means that when we publish something new then you'll get a copy of the entry in your Inbox straight away. It doesn't look as nice as it does on the Blog but it saves you coming back to check constantly.

(small print: no email address is sold to third company parties party companies or spotty teenage spammers to try and sell you cheap viagra. That is unless this blog becomes a world wide hit in which case I'll need the cash to feed my new expensive habits!!!)

Moveable Menus: A bit of a story here . Julie wanted the menus in one order and I wanted mine in another. So to make everyone happy I've made the menus moveable. Not only that it will remember the order you select for the next time you visit the site. Cool eh?!?! Well I thought so!!!. Just grab the bar at the top of each panel and move them around. You can also open and close them with the little coloured icons in the corner.

Tags: Julie didn't see the point in this one but I think it's cool. You'll see there is a section called Tags. This is a list of the most popular subjects on the site. The blog will change these and increase / decrease the size of the text depending on how many entries go into that category. Practical? I don't know but I thought it look nice on the screen

Hello & welcome to our new blog - woohoo! 

James has spent ages working on this until it was to my satisfaction (as much the bit I write blogs in as the look of it and getting all the old blogs over here!)   He's very excited about it - so please humour/congratulate him!!

As you can probably already tell, I can now easily make text look different, where before it took me a lot of messing about and writing HTML code by hand, so mostly I didn't bother.

Hopefully now I don't get so annoyed doing blogs!  Remember to bookmark this new address and keep coming back!!
