Yesterday was an amazing day, my sister Laura got married to her fiance and Owen's daddy, Jamie. I was chief bridesmaid and witness, Kory was a pageboy and Krystal a flowergirl.
We drove down on Thursday lunchtime after collecting the kids from school. On Friday, I went with Mum to get my eyebrows done and to collect all the bridesmaids dresses, kilts and Laura's wedding dress and get the whole lot to the hotel ready.
The other bridesmaids, Michelle & Lucy, and I were staying there with Laura the night before the wedding so everything was set up in our room. I went back to mums for some dinner and to say goodnight to the kids then back to the hotel again for the girly night in. I met Martin (Jamie's brother, the best man and other witness) for the first time too.
About 10pm we settled in for the night, which involved painting of fingernails and toenails, drinking some yummy fizzy stuff, munching crisps and having a good old giggle.
It was gone 2am when we finally went to sleep so when the alarm went off again at 7am there were 4 female zombies!! We had a lovely fry up breakfast and then headed to the hairdressers for 9am.
Laura got taken right away and the rest of us waited. And waited and waited. Lucy and Michelle got taken and Laura went to get her make up done. I waited some more, finally getting taken at 11:20am which made us ridiculously late back to the hotel to get ready.
All the while the guests were arriving downstairs!
We did find a small gap of time to shovel in some sandwiches....
It was a bit of a mad dash to get our make up on, Krystal's hair done, her dressed, all our dresses on and finally Laura's dress on to her!
After a few quick shots from the photographer, it was well beyond time to head to the ceremony...
...where Jamie and Martin were waiting patiently....
The registrar and service were lovely, our Dad did a nice reading and before long they were Mr & Mrs Lydon!
Owen wasn't too taken with the whole "mummy and Daddy getting married" thing.....
We all signed the register and headed out to the bar area for a wee drink before it was time to paste on a smile and get our photos taken in as many combinations as we could possibly think of.
The cutting of the cake was about 5pm, followed by speeches and meal. The meal was melon/sorbet, leek and potato soup, chicken in peppercorn sauce/steak pie (I had veggie lasagne) then cheesecake.
I couldn't eat it all, I was totally stuffed! Even these delicious sweeties that appeared after the meal didn't get a look in.
After the meal, Laura and Jamie went upstairs for a bit of a chill out, so I took Owen up to join them. It turned out Laura's dress was hurting her and Lucy and I had to start again putting it on which took ages!
By the time we got back downstairs all the evening guests had arrived and it was time for the first dance to "Greatest Day" by Take That - an excellent choice if I say so!
The kids were a bit dance floor shy to start with, but a few songs in and you couldn't get Kory off - in fact he was still there at 12:30am for Auld Lang Syne! The band (Easy Street) were very good, playing a real mix of songs all evening.
I didn't drink a thing, I was so full from the meal, I couldn't even fit in some water! For the same reason I missed out on the Candy Bar and Chocolate Fountain, but I think it's fair to say the kids made up for me!
It was great seeing some family I've not seen for years as well as putting faces to names of people I've heard all about (Jamie's family and mum's friends)
I got to bed at 3am totally exhausted, Krystal did really well lasting till 10:30pm and falling asleep on a chair. As I mentioned Kory was on the dance floor all night and both were impecibly behaved all day. Very proud parents here.
It was a lovely day, and from us all, we wish Laura, Jamie & Owen all the best for their new life.
